Sunday Recap
Recap:The much anticipated 8am matchup started off as many had hoped for, unfortunately not many were in the gym to witness two of the leagues top stars go head to head. Darien Brothers made his return to Whites lineup and effortlessly impressed finishing with a bloody mouth and 35 points. One could say White deferred to Brothers maybe a little too much. Key players like Will and Julian were noticeably out of rhythm and did not perform to their usual standards. Albeit only playing the first half Tony Gaffney finished with 14 points 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Propelled by the dominant first half of Gaffney and another solid shooting performance by Taylor Carlson who finished with 28 points Yellow defeated White 82-72 and complete the regular season sweep.
Recap:Unlike the highly competitive 8am matchup this week’s 9am matchup resemble a Varsity vs JV scrimmage more than a men’s league game. By the end of the first quarter Red was up 20 and didn’t take their foot off the gas. Jordan was the lone bright spot for Black finishing with 22 points. For Red all players finished with double digits lead by Juwaun 31 points and ABap 40 point explosion.
Recap:This one was not as close as the score suggests as Green got off to a hot start and a strong finish. Brad got his double double and Rico once again lit up the stat book. Everybody on Green was having a good time and pushing the ball and it was nice to see Zach hitting some shots. For Blue, Steve Kane turned back the clock with a few nice floaters and vintage deep 3s but it was not enough. Charlie Large also looked unstoppable at times and occasionally didn't yell at the ref, but the game was out of reach and it didn't really matter. Rico had 32 for Green and Charlie ended with 34 in the loss.
Recap:After two blowouts, the 11am game finally threw a real punch with a competitive matchup between Orange and Purple. Myles Powell came out swinging early with acrobatic finishes around the rim and smooth three-point shooting that left Purple reeling. Mike “Rondo” Downing threw a few jabs of his own, orchestrating the offense for Purple and landing 24 points. Both squads traded punches throughout the game, with neither team able to land a knockout blow. With less than 10 seconds left, Team Purple’s Garrett missed two crucial foul shots, giving Orange the opening they needed. Orange quickly countered, passing the ball upcourt and finding Myles Powell in the corner for the game-winning three; a real punch to the face for Purple. Myles finished with 26 points for Orange.
